Still, I Rise

Still, I Rise

You may write me down in history

With your bitter, twisted lies,

You may tread me in the very dirt

But still, like dust, I’ll rise.

Does my sassiness upset you?

Why are you beset with gloom?

‘Cause I walk like I’ve got oil wells

Pumping in my living room.

Just like moons and like suns,

With the certainty of tides,

Just like hopes springing high,

Still, I’ll rise.

Did you want to see me broken?

Bowed head and lowered eyes?

Shoulders falling down like teardrops,

Weakened by my soulful cries?

Does my haughtiness offend you?

Don’t you take it awful hard

‘Cause I laugh like I’ve got gold mines

Diggin’ in my own backyard.

You may shoot me with your words,

You may cut me with your eyes,

You may kill me with your hatefulness,

But still, like air, I’ll rise.

Does my sexiness upset you?

Does it come as a surprise

That I dance like I’ve got diamonds

At the meeting of my thighs?

Out of the huts of history’s shame

I rise

Up from a past, that’s rooted in pain

I rise

I’m a black ocean, leaping and wide,

Welling and swelling I bear in the ti

Leaving behind nights of terror and fear

I rise

Into a daybreak that’s wondrously clear

I rise

Bringing the gifts that my ancestors gave,

I am the dream and the hope of the slave.

I rise

I rise

I rise.

Maya Angelou

What’s it all about

Do you feel like you have lost all the hopes in life? Do you think your life has become meaningless? Do you feel your existence does no matter on the earth? Then, you have landed on the right place! If you have skipped the beautiful Orchid that has been picked from the garden of poetry written at the start of this post then I would highly recommend you to reconsider your idea of skipping the above poem and go through it. Because I believe that it is by far the finest piece of fighting spirit ever written. Further, the context under which Maya had written this poem might be different but the human emotions are timeless. Hence, you should always keep in mind that even if life has been brutally unfair with you, you must always rise up and never give up. Furthermore, you can read more about never giving up in our post Never Give Up!

It’s a beautiful life

Fellas! Life is worth living. Each and every moment of it meant to be wonderful and cheerful. The supreme power has bestowed us with its most beautiful creation, life! Moreover, every single moment of life is to be cheered and celebrated. First of all, the very word “life” is so joyful that it creates a soothing feeling in the heart of a person.

However, nowadays most of the people in this word use the term “Life” like a sigh slang. The reason behind this drastic reorientation is that we have filled our life with so many unnecessary things that at the end of the day it keeps us clueless about happiness, joy, and positivity. Further, whenever we have setbacks in our life, we just surrender to them and never try to fight against the odds of life. But instead of being submissive to failures, we must fight our way out of them. Even if it takes breathes away from our lungs, we must always rise again. This attitude is a prerequisite for getting success in any sphere of life.

Rise up and find out what is holding you back

If things are not in order in your life and you think that you are merely a victim of the circumstances and can do nothing for altering the status quo, you are very much on the wrong track. Moreover, you need to stop sitting idle and do nothing about facing the adversities. Therefore, find out what is holding you back from rising up again and take necessary actions.

As an illustration, let’s see what J. K Rowling, the world-renowned author of the Harry Potter series, has said about recovering from the failure and rise up again“Failure meant a stripping away of the inessential. I stopped pretending to myself that I was anything other than what I was, and began to direct all my energy into finishing the only work that mattered to me. Had I really succeeded at anything else, I might never have found the determination to succeed in the one arena I believed I truly belonged.”

So, find it out what is holding you back. What are those things that are hindering your progress? List them and work out on those things and stop not till you fix them. And as Maya Says in the above poem “rise again”. Because as Paulo Coelho says “The secret of life, though, is to fall seven times and to get up eight times.
